My classes will both motivate and challenge the artist in you, while the Abruzzo landscape will inspire your work. The region has been largely cut off from the rest of Italy by its high rugged mountains, so the pace of life is still slow and it has many picturesque hilltop settlements to explore. I am passionate about teaching my original collage technique, which I also call painting with fabrics, as the end result is closer to a painting than a quilt. I encourage both creativity and individuality in my classes. Over the week you will learn many new ways to use fabric such as, mono printing, fraying silks, layering sheers, and scrunching and gathering fabrics. Each day you will create a sample piece for your folder based on one of the 5 elements of design – line, shape, tone, texture and glorious colour. All of the above new creative techniques will then be used to create a fantastic fabric collage based on the surrounding landscape. Finally you will learn free motion machine stitching to draw on your landscapes, and I will demonstrate it to those who don’t know how to do it. By the end of the week you will take home a unique landscape picture that you have created, a folder of design & technique sample pieces and the confidence to keep working creatively with your fabrics at home.
